Hi,
Thanks for the review Colin! It is indeed useful.
I was wondering if singapore sell any "case cover"? If i am not wrong, I once face a Bassoonist that carried his Bassoon around (backpacked), it looked like a gig bag but actually it is the bassoon original case with a nylon case cover at the outer part of the case. So overall, it looked like a bag. It looks protective since the instrument is still in the case and you can carry it without any worries and problems. Anybody know what I mean? I think the way I say it is quite confusing =/
Edit: I found this on protec website. This is the cover I meant however it is for clarinet! I hope that I can find an euphonium one!

Hi fellows,
Protec did not enjoy good reputation many years ago... I remember my fren''s trombone drop out of the case cuz the zip ripped itself opened. that was more than 10 years ago. I told myself not to buy protec forever.
However, recent observation shows Protec using quality fabrics and parts and the workmanship is one of the best. Also the product have evolved into very attractive, contemporary and functional designs.
I used Reunion Blue (RB), Marcus Bonna (MB), BAGS, Thompsonedition, and my current case is a new PROTEC IPAQ.
These are wot i observed in my own case (pun unintended):
1. Solid sewing methods
2. ballistic high density fabric
3. upgraded heavy duty YKK zippers
4 internal cushion kept horn suspended and protected from edge of the hardshell skeleton.
5. modular straps (removable backpack system sold separately) u can hand carry, shoulder sling or backpack.
6. mountain climbing grade ABS in straps and mounts and some perk accessories like luggage tags.
The Protec IPAQ is half the price of my former MB...yet the more expensive MB caused major damage when the horn was secured inside due to thin internal cushions, un-shielded zippers and fabric is torn from wear and tear (low density fabrics)
I love the RB from 1995.. but i worry when i squeeze in bus and trains and getting hard knocks.... Singapore is 1 million more populated than 15 years ago...so gigbag is no more for me.
MB tho expensive and prestigious have design flaws that is ridiculous for this price. how much does it cost to build a case in brazil???
I am personally very happy with Thompsonedition and BAGS from Spain. durable, comfortable... abeit bulky.hence I tried something different this time.
there are also Eastman fibreglass cases available if u r interested. Nice and light enuff just be careful with strap D-rings on the case breaking when u are carrying it. any cushion inside will not help the instrument survive a tumble.
Hope u find the review useful
cheers!

haha, i duno, my protec one for clar''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''s quite okay. & lightweight!. HAHA.
Is it hard casing? I heard that the zip of the bag will scratch the instrument. So I am worried if it is good... It is protective, isn''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''t it? Where can I get the bag at a good price?
The zip is.. kinda far away from the instrument? duno. yeah clar only got hard casing what O_o haha my instrument''''''''s fine, and I''''''''m quite contented with it hahaha.
eh heh heh the tombstone xD
ah. looking for a torpedo trumpet bag =D
currently using the original hard cases.
good, hard, can sit on during train rides ^_^
sick of the soft cases.. previous encounters with them left my trumpets dented and stuff. =((((
torpedo is overkill man! i like the yamaha double cases so far xD..they''re not bulky, pretty ergonomic in tight situations and pretty light. durable as well (tested by my..er..unfortunate knockings and sitting ons)

Protec is not bad... Quite a sturdy brand and a cheaper alternative to BAM cases...

I did chime in on Reunion Blues earlier on in this thread, giving a link to some info about Reunion Blues. Personally I''''ve never used a Reunion Blues gig bag before but through reading online forums they have not been receiving positive reviews; partly because of the link between RB and Glenn Cronkhite I guess. I personally use a Protec case currently and I don''''''''t see any problems about the craftsmanship. So ya it''''s wise to look around for what you want before buying it. Consider fit of the instrument, weight, ergonomics and whatever you want to consider. All the best!
Hahas! thanks. I did do a research on it before on the web and there were saying that the case will scratch the instrument, when bump into something, the instrument will get dented, etc. So I am quite worried about getting a protec bag. Reunion blues I really have no idea. But if were me, I will prefer to get a cronkhite instead of a RB hahas =X

So any comments about the protec cases/bags? I want to ensure it is a good bag before getting it. I do know protec products is being sold at accent as well as at swee lee.
is the reunion bag trustworthy?
I heard reunion blues is WAY better than protec. Protec is rather poorly made.
Hmm, if that''s the case, I will have to go down band world and check it out. My friend is currently using it (protec). He is going to "try" the bag for 2 months before telling me if it is good. =D

Right so as far as I know, Protec does not make hard cases for euphonium. They only make gig bags. Check out their website:
www.protecmusic.com
yea checked. I wonder if this gig bag good enough to protect my instrument? Ok, just assume I have only 250 dollar budget, what gig bag should I get?
